Performers and offstage workers give and get advice anonymously while helping our industry
Okay, okay, hear me out. I worked here AGES ago. 2015 and had just graduated from college. It was the WORST experience. Housing was unlivable (I’m talking bugs, mattress on the floor, etc) we were told not to cash our checks at the end of the summer because the check “Might not clear”. I was never paid my full salary on time because “if I got paid the full amount that I negotiated than other actors wouldn't get paid…” When I tell you it was a nightmare. There was one day that we discovered someone wasn’t at the theatre for a performance because he didn’t come on stage. That’s when people knew he wasn’t in the building…because he missed his entrance!! We didn’t have a sign in sheet that summer and it was a complete mess.
Anyway, hopefully it has gotten better. Even though I have also heard some shit about what it’s like to work there recently as a POC and it’s not the vibe.
